Zen Dog Attention Training
This game is a great way to encourage eye contact and attention from your dog. Start with one dog, some treats and some spare time. With the dog sitting in front of you show him the treat then move it about a foot away from you and to the side. The dog will most likely continue to look at the treat you’re holding. Wait him out, eventually he’ll look away from the treat and at you, when he does this say YES! and quickly give him the treat.
The Zen name comes from the idea that he must give up the treat to earn the treat.
This promotes good attention around distractions which is essential for having a well trained dog. So grab a handful of treats, sit in your favorite chair and practice teaching your dog how to be Zen-like.
