Well hello everyone! Been a while huh?

I must confess, I've been out a LOT taking pics, thoroughly enjoying my SLR. LOL

PJ and Tysa are doing just dandy. They recently turned 5 and 6.....still big puppies and full of energy (ALWAYS!!). haha Bandit is doing ok now, but I had a couple of really rough months with him. Over $1000 in tests, weeks of antibiotics and he's slowly getting back to normal. Started with a severe eye infection/fever, he went on eye drops and antibiotics for 10 days. Two days after the antibiotics (Zenequin) was done, it came back. The first trip was to an e-vet (happened to be a Sunday), so the next time I went to a vet closer (couldn't use my regular vet, car had crapped out). Vet put him on different drops this time, and the 2 week Convenia injection. He also got put on Lysine (vet thought it was feline herpes virus). At about day 11 of the antibiotics, Bandit wouldn't eat and slowly became lethargic, to the point he was wobbling and eventually, he couldn't even stand.....and his fever came back. So back to the vet we went. He had a full blood panel done...(including his T4 which I'd wanted to do before) and that was all clear. Urinalysis was clear. He also had x-rays done.....they were clear, but the one x-ray (they did 3), was blurry and the vet wasn't sure if one of his heart valves was normal. He gave a "best guess" diagnosis that Bandit had an infection in his heart valve. (I didn't buy it then, don't buy it now......my guess was calicivirus). The plan was long term antibiotics...obviously there was an infection "somewhere". I wanted him back on the Zenequin since it relieved him almost immediately the first time. And after thinking about it, I didn't want him back on the Convenia. I honestly think he had a reaction to it, and was positive that caused his loss of appetite. Plus if he was having reactions to it, you can't just stop giving it. I will never again use an injection over oral antibiotics.
Anyway, the vet wanted Bandit on the Zenequin for 3-6 months. Nope, after 6 weeks of it, I tried him off of them, checking his temperature multiple times a day. I didn't like the idea of him having to be on them for that length of time unless absolutely necessary.....which I didn't feel it was. He's been clear for about 2 weeks now, and just about back to normal. He had lost almost two pounds, but he put that back on. LOL Apparently Zenequin gave him the munchies......plus he was separated from my other cat while he recovered, so no play exercise.

Which brings me to the new addition. Abby! I got her just after Christmas at 8 weeks....almost a year after Chubby died. Partly because I think Bandit became a little bit depressed after Chubby died (but I wasn't ready to get another cat at the time), so she's company for him, plus I thought having a youngster around would help him lose weight. He did lose a little, but it turns out instead of Bandit taking after Abby and being more spunky......Abby has taken her cues from Bandit. Never seen such a lazy kitten (ok not lazy....but she's certainly low key compared to every other kitten I've ever met). LOL She's a cutie, and Bandit and her got on "almost" instantly. Took about 12 hours for Bandit to go from growling at her to grooming her. I'll hunt down some pics later on, for now my avatar of Bandit and Abby will have to do. ;)

Myself.....well I went for a hysterectomy in February. And I feel GREAT compared to the past 8 years or so. :D What a relief! Hot flashes suck, but I'll take em over the pain I had to endure constantly before! Don't regret having it done one bit! Seriously, I was out of the hospital after 48 hours (and it was abdominal...about a 7 inch long incision), doing light housework within a week, and was walking the trails at the nature park for hours at a time after a month. I wasn't even able to do that before the surgery! haha

Well, that's all for now folks. Glad to be back active again.

P.S - Liking the new setup here. ;)

Welcome back my friend! Your time is perfect for the new forum design - SP just got it set up within the past few days.

Glad to hear all the furkids are doing well and that Bandit is on the mend! What a scare they can give us!Abby is a cutie! :)

I'm so happy that you finally had your surgery and are feeling great! A hint to help with the hot flashes that a friend who is a nurse told me about - having some soy every day apparently helps quite a bit.

Gonna hold you to your promise of some pics - sure had PJ & Tysa withdrawal - miss seeing my 2 favorite rotties!

If you think dogs can't count, try putting three dog biscuits in your pocket and then give him only two of them.

Welcome back! Can't wait to see some pics of your new addition (and of course the others too)

That's great news that the surgery went well and you're feeling better. So happy that worked out for you!
